Brooklyn via New Paltz, NY- basedWhat Moon Things is the slow-punk songwriting medium of multi instrumentalists John Morisi and Jake Harms. Drawing inspiration from an eclectic range of influences, the band veers seamlessly between feedback-soaked shoegaze and syncopated gothic-chillwave, invoking the spirit of bands like My Bloody Valentine and The Cure.
Recorded at home in Morisi’s tiny New Paltz apartment (nicknamed “The Dump”), WMT’s eponymous full-length album was mixed by Scott Nicholas and mastered by Jesse Magnum (Elf Power, Kishi Bashi) in Athens, GA, a town that has become a second home for the band. All but one of the record’s eight songs were co-written by Harms and Morisi, and together they recorded all of the instrumentation on the album (san Nicholas’ roiling noise collage, “Moon Things”),
What Moon Things was released on 12″ vinyl and CD in early June 2014 on Athens, GA label Hot Grits Records, and met with critical praise, including a rating of 7.3 by Pitchfork Media.
